Reducing Belt Wear at Loading Zones: Impact Beds vs Impact Idlers

When to use UHMWPE cradle bars, when rubber disc idlers are the better choice for your transfer point.

The loading point takes the punishment

Material falls from the chute onto the belt at the transfer point, concentrating impact energy on a short stretch of belt. Poor protection there tears covers, cuts belts and wastes spillage around the skirt seals.

Impact beds (cradles)

A spring-suspended impact bed lines the belt with UHMWPE or polymer bars that spread the load across a wide area and flatten the belt under the skirt, reducing spillage. Best for high-drop, high-density material and wide belts where a continuous support surface seals the transfer point.

Impact idlers

Impact troughing idlers carry larger-diameter rubber cushion rings and absorb shock on a roller base. They suit moderate drop heights and conveyors that already run roller troughing sets, keeping the system uniform and easier to stock.

Pair with skirt seals and liners

Neither solution works alone: a skirt board seal contains spillage at the edges and replaceable chute wear liners protect the steel hopper from abrasion. Specify the bed or idlers, skirts and liners together.
